Mach Sunglasses by Sundog Eyewear

Mach Sunglasses by Sundog EyewearThe world’s top runners demand the top performance gear. It has to be durable, lightweight, and made specifically for runners. The makers at Sundog have been designing sunglasses made specifically for long distance runners. Just released is the new Mach series, part of the Summer 2013 collection by Sundog.

The R&D team at Sundog took a close look at the needs of long distance runners when designing these sunglasses. For example, they nose piece is adjustable for ultimate comfort and it has a special polymer which keeps the glasses in place, especially important when sweating or running in the rain.

The same polymer is also used on the temple tips of the arms, keeping the frames from sliding and bouncing. The lightweight frames are made with a patent resin that allows them to flex to adjust to the shape of the head. This particular style is well suited for people with wider faces.

Marathon runners spend a significant amount of time outdoors and are exposed to UV rays. While sunblock can protect the skin, the eyes also require protection. Again, the R&D team ensured that the lens for the Mach style didn’t just ensure the lens had UV blocking technology, but they also designed the lens so it wraps completely around the face, almost completely protecting the eyes.

Overall the design is sleek and sporty. While these are high performance sunglasses they won’t break the bank. They are actually significantly cheaper compared to other name brands, whose designs are not specifically made for runners. Perhaps it’s time to upgrade your running sunglasses and start getting maximum performance and comfort, just like the pros!

Hot Summer Temperatures Dangerous for Endurance / Marathon Runners

The mercury is starting to rise and that means it’s time to change running patterns and habits. Hot temperatures are dangerous for endurance sport and marathon runners. Understanding the risks and how to avoid getting into a serious situation, or even worse, death, is important.

Training for a marathon is significantly easy in the cooler months like fall or spring. As the temperatures rise, the body isn’t used to the hot weather and hasn’t been conditioned. This is when marathon runners run into serious complications, such as cramping and heat exhaustion, that can hamper their race time or end up in a medical tent with a DNF. Understanding how to avoid these dangers is important.

It is important to help the body adapt to the significantly warmer temperatures. As muscles and internal organs heat up, blood moves the heat to the skins surface. On the surface, skin begins to sweat, which cools the body back down. In as short as two weeks of training, the body can adapt to the warmer conditions, dramatically improving circulation and sweat capacity.

During this transition time, training runs may need to be shortened or done at a slower pace. More importantly, the body will require a dramatic increase in both water and electrolytes to stay hydrated so your body has the fluids it needs to keep sweating. You may also want to change your training times to earlier in the morning when the temperatures are at the daily low.

Get out and enjoy the summer sunshine and remember to adapt your training program to build your strength and exercise.

5 Easy Ways to Ruin Your Vacation

5 Great Ways to Ruin a Vacation

Summer vacation season is here! Make the most of of your upcoming trip by travelling smart and avoid making these costly mistakes that can ruin your vacation.

  1. Forget to book the hotel. Ok, so you probably won’t forget to book a hotel, but when you are booking a hotel, make sure you triple check the dates. It sucks when you show up at the front desk and the reservation isn’t until the next day or you haven’t booked enough nights. It can cost an arm and a leg to add extra nights, especially when the front desk knows you have nowhere else to go.
  2. Get sick. Nothing sucks more than spending your entire vacation in the washroom because you are sick. Stick to drinking bottled water. Also try taking taking an immunity booster like Emergen-. Yogurt should become your best friend too; it immediately helps with unsettled stomachs and digestion problems, which causes a lot of people grief. Coffee can also upset your body when travelling, so stick to green and herbal teas.
  3. Share everything on social media. Even for the most connected people on social media, you need downtime to actually enjoy the place that you are at and what is going on in the moment. If you spend your entire time tweeting, instagramming, Facebooking, and vining, how are you ever going to enjoy your trip? It’s your trip after all, not your followers. Are you just going to go home and look at the tweets and pictures later to see if you had a good time or not? Seriously, put the iPhone down for an hour or two – you’ll survive!
  4. Avoid setting expectations with travel companions. Everyone as some point takes a trip with friends and regrets it later. If you are planning to travel with friends, set out the ground rules while planning the vacation. You don’t have to go everywhere together and do all the same things. It should be ok to sleep in, go back to the hotel for a nap, decide to go to the art gallery instead of the museum, or have drinks at the pool instead of going for lunch. It’s your vacation – enjoy it!
  5. Party hard. Unless you’re plans are to go on a circuit party vacation where you know you’ll be out late every night, sleeping in the next day and waking up with massive hang-over, it’s advised not to go out drinking and partying every night. There are exceptions. For example, if you’re going to New Orleans or Las Vegas, there should be an expectation that you’re going to be out late and a bit hung over in the morning. For the most part, it’s reasonable to have a couple of drinks, but try to get a good night sleep so you can get out the next day and enjoy the city. It sucks getting home from a vacation and realize that you were too hung over the entire time that you didn’t even get to see any of the local sights or attractions.

2013 Acura ILX

Youth with Maturity, the 2013 Acura ILX

If you’ve owned your car for a while and thinking that it’s time for an upgrade, it’s time to take a look at the 2013 Acura ILX. This car has amazing sleek lines, a powerful, fuel-efficient engine, awesome driver features, and an affordable price tag; making it one of the most attractive cars for young, sophisticated, and first-time luxury car buyers.

2013 Acura ILX

Under the hood there is an impressive 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine producing 150 horsepower. This is the first year that a hybrid has been available in the ILX model, which features a fuel-efficient 1.5-litre engine and an integrated electric motor.

The exterior of the car shows youthfulness, with a sense of business-professional; something most young professionals are looking for as they are growing in to their careers and starting to move up the corporate ranks. The exterior has great aerodynamic design, with complimenting design details that give it character and movement. The frame is designed for driver stability and safety, providing a fantastic driver experience.

2013 Acura ILX

Safety is something that car owners shouldn’t have to worry about, and the Acura ILX has drivers in mind. The car has been built with a patent A.C.E. technology, which means that in a crash the body of the car will take the impact, leaving the passengers inside the cabin safe and secure. Inside there are driver and passenger airbags, and driver stability assist controls to help the driver in the event of an incident on the road.

IMG_1246_sm

Driver comfort and satisfaction are the highlights inside the vehicle. The driver can quickly shift through the 6-speed standard transmission in just seconds on an open highway, and get comfortable by opening up the sunroof and letting in the breeze, while cranking up the tunes on the surround-sound stereo.

Canadian drivers will appreciated the heated leather seats come winter, which have electric adjustments and seat memory settings for up to two different drivers. The interior detail is impressive, right down to the silver accent trim and white accent stitching in the leather seats.

While the audio system does have great sound and hands-free connectivity, it lacks BlueTooth integration and simple-to-set-up smartphone connectivity; however, there is a helpful rear back-up camera. It would have been great to have seen a full touch-screen panel with GPS maps and smartphone connectivity, especially for a vehicle geared towards a younger, more sophisticated, on-the-go audience. Oh, and oddly, there’s a CD player – who has CD’s in their cars these days? LOL

2013 Acura ILX - Push Start / Stop Keyless Ignition

Other driver luxuries include push start/stop (keyless) ignition, dual temperature controls, and audio/voice controls on the steering wheel. To add a touch of speed there are awesome sport pedals – vroom vroom!

Driver controls on the steering wheel of the 2013 Acura ILX

Wrapping up the entire package is the amazing sound the Acura ILX makes as you take off at a green light, leaving the other cars behind, as the tail pipe turns out a loud, sporty belch of power. Take that!

The Acura ILX starts at just $27,790 and goes up to $34,490; pretty decent for a luxury sports car. Test drive one today at your local Acura dealer – you’ll love it!

The Secret for a Sexy Summer Body

Muscle MLK is the secret to a sexy, summer bodyDiet and exercise go hand-in-hand. Cutting out fats and sugars and eating a well balanced, nutritional diet is to maintaining a healthy weight and working out will help tone your body. But how can you have a sexy, summer body? It comes down to discipline, hard work, and using protein to build strong, sexy muscles.

Working out for one hour a day will help burn calories. Workouts should range from cardio to strength training. Cardio workouts would include running, cycling, swimming and hiking, and strength training ranges from lifting weights at the gym to rowing and cross-fit.

During workouts muscles develop micro tears. This is good. It means that the body has worked hard. At the end of the workout the body immediately begins to repair damaged muscles and tissues. To maximize the workout, it is critically important to fuel the body. Protein is the body’s main building blocks, repairing muscle, bone, skin and other tissues.

Athletes ranging from marathon runners to weight lifters rely on protein because it helps the body recover from intense exercise. Serious athletes drink protein shakes, like Muscle MLK, combined with carbohydrates and fats to refuel post workout.

But you don’t have to be an elite athlete to receive the full benefits of protein post workout. Even if you’re going on a day hike, playing an afternoon baseball game, or going for an evening paddle, protein will help your body repair and build valuable muscle, maximizing your opportunity to develop a strong, sexy, summer body.

For someone who runs twice a week and lifts weights at the gym twice a week, it is recommended to have a daily intake of 0.75 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight. Solid food takes longer to digest and break down, so to get the maximum benefit and deliver protein fastest to the muscles post-workout, it’s recommended to drink a liquid protein immediately. It can take approximately 30 minutes for the protein to reach the muscle after ingestion, so the faster you drink liquid protein, the faster your muscles can repair and grow.

Having protein before bed can also help with repairing muscles while you rest. It’s a good method because protein burns slow and depletes as you sleep. It’s also good to have in the morning because your body needs nourishment after sleeping.

Essentially remember this: you’re spending all this time working out at the gym, being active, and getting in lots of exercise to get your body ready for summer – it’s all a waste unless you have protein immediately after your workout. For people on the go, just pack a bottle of Muscle MLK in your gym bag or car, so you’re fuelling right away. Also eat a well balanced diet throughout the day to efficiently fuel your body for all the fun summer activities you have lined up.

Eat with the Locals at 4th and Swift, Atlanta, Georgia

Fresh ingredients at 4th and Swift in Atlanta, GeorgiaWhen your travel adventures take you to Atlanta, Georgia, a good, hearty, home cooked meal is always appreciated. But with so many restaurant choices, it’s almost impossible to figure out where to go. Here’s some good travel advice; go where the locals love to dine, at 4th and Swift in Atlanta’s Midtown district.

Originally built as the Old Fourth Ward, the location is the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King. That has some cache right there! Over the years the property has found itself through a number of transitions, and in its current state, owner and chef Jay Swift has turned it in to one of Atlanta’s best dining locations.

Start off the experience at the large wood plank bar with a cocktail. Mixology is taken very seriously, with both traditional and hand-crafted, original cocktails.

Fresh vegetarian choices are an option at 4th and Swift in Atlanta

The overly complicated menu at 4th and Swift in Atlanta, GeorgiaChef Swift’s team of culinary artists has created a menu using top quality, fresh ingredients, which offer incredible flavours to burst from each dish. The selection is incredible, but they don’t make it easy. There are four different menus to order off of; Market, Tasting, Seasonal and Daily Feature. Just know that you can order any dish, in any order, off any menu. This is when you’ll want to become great friends with your server to they can help interpret the overly complicated menu for you, so you can figure out what you want to have for an appetizer versus an entrée.

The menus are updated daily based on the seasonal meats and produce available. There’s everything from artisan cheese plates to veal. For a land-locked city, the menu has an odd amount of fresh and salt water fish choices; if you’re going to an inland city, stick to land animals, right? Salads and vegetables are all great choices, especially if you’re looking for a vegetarian option.

10 Things Gay Men Need to Stop Doing

10 Things Gay Men Need To Stop DoingThere are so many great things that happen in the gay community – from volunteering and activism, to fundraising events and raising awareness. There’s no shortage of all the good work that happens on a daily basis. But as the gay community grows, we need to continue to celebrate and respect our diversity. Here’s the list of 10 things gay men need to stop doing:

  1. Denoting queens. Drag Queens are the cornerstone of every gay community.
  2. Describe yourself as “straight acting”. Don’t disrespect the gay community and pretend to be someone you are not or try to denounce being gay.
  3. Trying to conform to the stereotypical gay man. Just be yourself.
  4. Trying to be more “masculine”. Gay isn’t about being masculine or feminine, it’s about being you!
  5. Use Grindr on multiple devices. If someone didn’t message you back, or blocked you on one device, take a hint. You’re not going to increase you chances by having multiple profiles. Besides, it’s a bit awkward for everyone when they see multiple pictures of you in a row. Are you self-obsessed, desperate, or just can’t find enough hook-ups?
  6. Asking “are you clean”? Yes, I took a shower this morning after the gym and will have another before going out tonight. I think what you are asking is if I am HIV negative. If that’s what you really want to know, just say it. “What is your HIV status?” It’s the correct way to ask people and no misinterpretations.
  7. Saying things are “too gay”. What the hell does that mean?
  8. Fake tanning. It’s awkward to wake up in someone else’s bed having an imprint of your body stained on their 300 thread count sheets.
  9. Hating other gay men. C’mon, it’s taken decades to get this far in equality… we don’t need to start hating amongst ourselves! That’s taking a step backwards.
  10. Hating yourself. Love who you are and enjoy being you! You’re part of a strong, diverse community.
