BMO Vancouver Marathon – Speaker Series: Sports Bloggers Q & A

Over the past four months myself and a group of official Run|Van bloggers have been documenting our marathon training. We have shared helpful tips, advice, and training guidance. On Saturday, May 5, three of the Van|Run bloggers, including myself, will be on the main stage at the Health, Sports and Lifestyle Expo to talk about our journey and the important role social media plays in our running and local communities.

Audience members are encouraged to participate and ask questions to the blogger panelists. Questions can range from how we got into social media and the role blogging plays in the marathon community, to our experiences in sports and running.

Date: Saturday, May 5, 2012
Time: 1:00pm – 2:00pm
Location: Hall C, Canada Place

I look forward to seeing you there!

Canada Place Lights Up like a Rainbow for Vancouver 2011 North American Outgames

Canada Place Corporation will light up the night sky during the Vancouver 2011 North America Outgames taking place July 25-31st 2011. Each night the sails will be lit in the rainbow colours, in celebration of the Outgames.

“Canada Place is pleased to support the GLISA North America Outgames as we light up our iconic sails in a rainbow of colour from July 25-30,” said Robyn McVicker, Director Communications & Public Affairs, Canada Place Corporation. “Each night the sails will shine in celebration of this fantastic event and as a welcome to all the Outgames athletes and participants from around the world.”

Located in the heart of Vancouver’s downtown harbour front, Canada Place generates over $1 billion per year in economic activity and is the inspiring national landmark welcoming local residents, visitors and ships to the West Coast.

Canada Day Recap

Thursday, July 1 people across Canada came together to celebrate our national holiday, Canada Day. I proudly sported my Team Canada Olympic jersey, Canada flags and a Canada flag temporary tattoo to show my passion for Canada.

My friend Jay and I spend the day at Canada Place, the gateway to Canada from the Pacific, located on Burrard Inlet in downtown Vancouver. It is home to the Pan Pacific Hotel, the cruise ship terminal, IMAX Theatre, the Vancouver Convention Centre, and the Port of Vancouver and Canada Place Corp corporate offices.

There were many activities including live musical performances, street performers, and demonstrations by the Canadian Armed Forces and Navy.

At 12:00pm, noon, the heritage horns rang out and the crowd proudly belted out, O’ Canada.

The highlight for many was to see the Vancouver 2010 Olympic cauldron re-lit. The cauldron has been under construction since the close of the Paralympics so a permanent structure could surround the massive art sculpture. The base of the cauldron is now surrounded by a pond.

In the evening I had the pleasure to watch the fireworks from the Helijet landing pad, located on the east side of Canada Place.

Although the weather was cool and threatened to rain, it was a very enjoyable day.
