Birthday Cake Martini

Happy Birthday to me! Yes, this weekend it is my birthday.

IMG_9945_sm

Did you know the song, Happy Birthday to You, is the most recognized song in the English language and has been translated into more than 18 languages? The song was originally written and composed by American sisters, Patty and Mildred Hill in 1893, based on the song, Good Morning to All, which was easily sung by most small children.

Birthday parties are full of traditions. It is customary at birthday parties for the birthday person to be seated with a cake with the number of candles equal to the age of the birthday person, lit, while the guests sing Happy Birthday to You. At the end of the song, the birthday person, makes a wish and then blows out the candles, hoping their wish comes true. The crowd would applause the important moment. The first piece of birthday cake is served to the birthday person, then to the remaining guests. After the birthday cake, gifts are presented to the birthday person.

While cake is traditional at most birthday parties, nothing would be more suitable at my birthday party than a Birthday Cake Martini!
