Vancouver, we love you [the t-shirt project]

Proudly wearing my Vancouver, we love you, the t-shirt project, shirt in my favourite Vancouver location, Yaletown!

Time and time again, Vancouver is rated one of the best / most liveable cities in the world. It’s not hard for people who live in Vancouver to understand why either. Vancouverites are very passionate about the city and love to share their passion with their friends, families, co-workers and pretty much anyone they know.

It all started with a love of comfy shirts,  a great city, and passion from local Vancouver entrepreneur Sarah Shandl.

Vancouver, we love you [the t-shirt project], has a goal to create an greater sense of pride for Vancouver then it already has.

“We live in the best city in the world, and I wanted to make a cool shirt that tourists and locals alike would love to wear, both in Vancouver and wherever they travel to,” said Shandl.

How it works: Customers purchase a Vancouver, we love you t-shirt, take a picture of themselves wearing it in their favorite Vancouver location, and post it along with a description of why they love that spot on the Vancouver, we love you website.

“It was a really obvious idea to me,” says Shandl. “Everyone loves a good shirt. Vancouver is amazing and everyone has his or her own unique favorite place and reason why. Combine the two with a website to show of the best places in Vancouver while promoting the t-shirt and you’ve got Vancouver, we love you [the t-shirt project]!”

“It’s really for everyone,” says Shandl. “The project is great to let visitors show their love for our city, as well as locals to show off their favorite secret locations that may not be the obvious spots everyone thinks of right away. Everyone has a special reason for loving this city, I want to know why.”

Besides being a t-shirt company, it’s also an online community for fans of Vancouver to show off their favorite spots at vancouverweloveyou.com.

Andrew Allen with fellow band members and friends proudly wear Vancouver, we love you t-shirts, on Vancouver's seawall.

The project has already gained local support. Upcoming BC musician, Andrew Allen joined the movement and proudly sports his Vancouver, we love you, t-shirt around the city.

10% from every t-shirt sale goes towards Covenant House Vancouver to help make Vancouver an even better place.

“I would like to ask everyone to just enjoy life a bit more,” said Shandl. “We’ve got it good here, and it’s too easy to miss out on that sometimes.”

To order your own t-shirt or for more information, visit the Vancouver, we love you [the t-shirt project] website.

Project Nightfire – Art + Technology Storytelling Spectacle

On Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11, from 9 – 10pm, the Georgia Street side of the iconic Vancouver Art Gallery will be digitally transformed right before your eyes! The project has been toted as a one of the a kind animation meets public art installation event.

This is how the storytelling has been described by Project Nighfire:

Nightfire is a 3D building manipulation piece that uses the boundaries of an architecture building to tell a compelling and beautiful narrative. The Vancouver Art Gallery sets the canvas, as Rival Schools will tell the story of an fallen angel. Broken, she’s found by a lone man who, with love, takes her on a  journey back to her home.  Set to the music “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot, audiences will be presented with this unusual experiement, as light, shadow and colour are projected on the Vancouver landmark to create illusion and transform it appearance.

Project Nightfire as tested on September 6 and you can see the test video here.

The event is a partnership between The Vancouver Opera, Rival Schools, The Media Merchants, and the Vancouver Art Gallery. Each partner contributed valuable resources to the experimental project.

For more information, please visit the Project Nightfire website.

The windows of the Vancouver Art Gallery have been covered to provide the most canvas space possible for the projection
