Jessica Sutta, Solo Career Takes Off

From a very young age, Jessica knew she wanted to be a singer.

“I would perform in front of my mirror until the wee hours of the morning,” Jessica giggled. “It’s a dream come true.”

For most teenage girls, growing up to be a pop singer could only be a dream. But not for Jessica. The singer, actress and dancer hit it big when she was signed on to be a famed Pussy Cat Doll.

“I learned so much,” Jessica said as she described her seven year career with the Pussy Cat Dolls. “There was not on particular thing. I grew up. I became a really good performer.”

In 2010, Jessica made the decision to embark on a solo career. It was a decision she can be proud of, especially when her debut single, Show Me, hit the #1 spot on the Billboard charts.

“Breaking into a solo career is hard, but it’s worth it,” described Jessica. “It’s so fulfilling to do it on your own. I feel like I’m earning this, as opposed to having it handed to me.

Jessica has the support of her past band members and appreciates everything they have done for her and her career.

“Don’t give up,” is Jessica’s advice for upcoming artists. “It’s not easy. If it was, everyone would be doing it. Have a reason bigger than you to be on that stage. To create that music.”

Jessica is set to release her new album in September 2012.

Award-Winning Lesbian Duo, Sugarbeach, Release New Single, ‘Led Me To You’ [Contest]

“Telling LGBT stories of love has been a focus of our music since the beginning.” says Sugarbeach’s lesbian singer / songwriter, Marlee Walchuk. “We feel that although many aspects of our community are represented in the media, not nearly enough give us a glimpse of solid, loving relationships.

The openly out and married music duo, Marlee Walchuk and Tully Callendar reflected upon their own ‘love at first sight’ in their latest single, Led Me To You.

“I am so grateful for all the experiences that I had to have before I could be ready to be in this wonderful relationship,” said Callender. “It always amazes me how many things had to line up to make sure that we met and fell in love. It was no easy feat considering I lived in Australia and Marlee lived in Canada…oh and I was straight!”

Produced by Sugarbeach and Jim Walchuk, the song’s energy and ‘feel good’ message is pure Sugarbeach and is a more personal follow up to their gay anthems, “Living Out Proud’ and their 2011 North American Outgames theme song, “Come On Out.”

Winners of Song of the Year for both 2010 and 2011 on the OutVoice Top 40 Charts and 3 Pride in the Arts Awards from the Stonewall Society, Sugarbeach once again endorse a positive form of activism with their new single, Led Me to You.

“We hope that people take away the message from Led Me to You that our life experiences and choices have led us to where we are supposed to be and who we are supposed to be and there is no room in that for regret,” continued Callender.

Growing up, both Marlee and Nathalie were surrounded by music. Their family members loved music and signing and playing instruments was part of their childhood.

Although Marlee and Nathalie grew up thousands of miles apart, they both continued to follow their passion for music and continued to sing. It was fate that brought them together, as life partners and musicians.

The lesbian music duo, Sugarbeach, live happily in their Vancouver home writing and producing their own music.

Since 2007 they have released two full albums, I Just Love Girls, and Not Deserted. Both were written and produced by Marlee and Nathalie under the Pink Productions label.

Sugarbeach has won numerous awards since releasing their first album in 2007, including Favorite Group of the Year in 2009, and Pride Song of the Year in 2010 for Living Out Proud.

For the 2011 North America Outgames, Marlee and Nathalie wanted to create a song that would encourage people to get involved and be proud. They wrote and produced the theme song for the Outgames, Come On Out.

The couple enjoy the variety that comes each day including the creative process they take to produce new music, preparing for their next concert, attending events and expanding their knowledge of music.

In the years to come, both Nathalie and Marlee are excited to continue on their musical journey. They are pioneering the way for LGBT musicians to come out and be part of the mainstream music industry.

Vancouver 2011 Outgames Official Theme Song Released

The organizers of the Vancouver 2011 Outgames and recording artists Sugarbeach have announced the official theme song for the Vancouver Outgames, “Come On Out”.

“We wanted to write a song that would capture the energy, spirit and importance of being an active participator in the Vancouver Outgames/Human Rights Conference and in one’s own life” says Marlee Walchuk, one half of the dynamic duo Sugarbeach.

“Vancouver 2011 Outgames are ecstatic about the tune that Sugarbeach has created for the Games,” said Barb Snelgrove, Communications Director of the Vancouver 2011 Outgames. “It truly represents the spirit of the Outgames and we are honoured that they are part of this very special event”.

Sugarbeach, the dance / pop duo, has released two chart topping albums in the past four years, and have been nominated for nine Pride in Arts awards, having won three including Favorite Group and Pride Song of the Year.
