I can think of a few off the top of my head, but I won’t mention names.”

Many guys who are experienced in the adult entertainment industry advise to keep your business to yourself, be professional, and avoid falling into the drama. Remain true to yourself and always be respectful of yourself, and others.

“Stay in shape, out of trouble, and don’t do drugs,” said Travis, giving his most important suggestions to newcomers. Most agents and studios want to work with people who are honest, hard working, and have good ethics. Take care of yourself, and they’ll take care of you.

“I would definitely hope I am looked at by people at a role model,” said Travis. While he has recently retired, he is still admired by many of his loyal fans. “A lot of people look down on those of us who do porn and I think most people would not look at a ‘porn star’ as a role model, but who knows, maybe someone out there does.”

Today, Travis is focused on his full-time studies in post-secondary, but still makes guest appearances and dances at clubs in Texas.

Recently Travis Irons, who now goes by his real name, Derek, announced his retirement from the gay porn industry and to go back to school. He has a real passionate motivation for going back…

“I recently discovered a new passion in my life,” Derek explained. “I have always been a compassionate, sympathetic person, and sensitive to other people’s feelings; but recently I decided to do something about by making a career out of it.”

It’s a good move for the 25 year old, who has a keen sense of learning and genuine interest in human behaviour.

“I think I found my calling in psychology; for many reasons, a few being that I really find the human mind very intriguing,” said Derek. “I would love to have better skills in that area and to help treat, prevent, and diagnose those with mental illness because I feel that mental illness is a serious matter and one of the most looked over issues in America.”

It’s been a year of change for Derek, all with great intentions and achieving moments.

“Having the courage to change my life around by moving back home and getting in school, staying out of the club scene, and just staying focused on bettering my future,” said Derek.

While school is the priority this year, Derek is hoping he will still be able to get to a few events in 2013.

“I’m going to school full time; Summer, Spring and Fall,” said Derek. “I haven’t really planned any trips this year, but I was invited to London Pride, in June I believe, which might be a possibility.”

“I think four and a half, almost five years, in the industry is long enough,” Travis said, as he described why he decided to end his adult entertainment career. “I had a good run and enjoyed it while it lasted, but enough is enough.”

“I am so ready for the next chapter in my life, retiring Travis Irons,” Travis explained. “It’s time for Derek, my real name, to come out and shine for the person I am, which is more than a sex symbol. I want a relationship, a career, an education, and just to settle down and be happy.”

Despite his popularity as a adult entertainer, Travis felt he could not accomplish his personal goals while continuing in the industry.

“Travis was just an act, a made up name, a mask that I wore to entertain people, and satisfy others,” said Travis. “It’s time for ME now.”

Travis is now in school and working on an ambitious career path in the health field. Although Travis’s future goals do not include getting back into the adult entertainment in the near future, there’s always a possibility.

“I’ll be 30 in four years,” joked Travis. “Maybe I’ll do men over 30!”

Many agents and studio managers caution people who get in to the adult entertainment field, not to place their entire career path on staying in the industry forever, and to ensure they continue with their education and full-time work. Travis is a shining example of someone who has found success and made a conscious decision to part ways while he is ahead.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who made it possible to do this for so long,” proclaimed Travis. “I know that sounds cliché and super corny, but seriously. Thank you Howard and everyone at Fabscout who stuck with me through all the shitty times. People who work in the adult entertainment industry are real people. Many of them go to school, have full time jobs, or are taking a break before their next big move. Take 24 year old Travis Irons for instance. While Travis admits some of his best memories from working overseas were training the Iraqi Police, he also appreciated winning medals for his service for his country.

Although Travis admits it is going to be his biggest personal challenge, he definitely has some strong future plans.

“I plan on going back to school for hotel management at the University of Houston,” Travis proudly stated. “I always say next year, next year, next year, but I’m going to make it happen. I also want to stay in my videos. Maybe start up my own company.”

When Travis isn’t working on set he finds time to relax and have some fun. He’s often found playing pool, bowling or pretty much any outdoor activity.

“I’m not really a huge sports guy,” Travis stated. “I played track, volleyball and baseball in high school.”

The fun-loving porn star loves to have fun, down a few Bud-Lite’s and get lots of sleep. All in a day’s hard work, right?

“On the couch watching TV,” is how the somehow single porn star described his ideal first date. “Somewhere quiet and not a lot of people, so we can get to know each other. Have some Mexican food. Oh, and if he took care of the check, that would be wonderful,” Travis said with laughter.

Travis enjoys reminiscing about his childhood too. He recalls fond memories of going to church every Sunday with his family.

On the day of your shoot you have to get ready long before you even arrive on set.

“It’s a good idea to use a douche bottle before,” Travis explained. “There’s nothing more annoying than having to stop in the middle of a scene.”

Travis also jokingly advised not to eat Mexican food beforehand either. Personal experience? Perhaps.

Once arriving to your filming location remember to turn your phone to vibrate and leave it securely locked up with the rest of your belongings. There’s no need to have your phone with you. It will just distract you and the others on set.

“I’m not really a size queen, so I’m not going to day a big cock,” said Travis as he described what makes a good top. “I would say really good kissing and holding tight.”

So what does Travis think a good bottom is?

“It’s more than just laying there,” Travis explained. “You have to get into it. Be clean.”

With these few tips, Travis is confident that you will be off to a good start on your first appearance on camera.

“Just be prepared for the whole world to see you naked,” Travis said half-heartedly.

At that time in his life, Travis believed he was heterosexual and was married to a woman. He was stationed out of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina during his three year military career.

After serving a mission in Iraq, Travis returned to the United States and began exploring and discovering his sexuality.

“I didn’t know anything,” Travis said as he recounted his experiences in the US Army.   “When I came back I got divorced. Then I came out.”

So what does the former military man turned gay porn star and exotic male dancer think about the decision to repeal the controversial Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy?

“I really hope we don’t take advantage of it,” Travis explained. “I hope that just because they are allowed to come out that they don’t walk around with handbags and everything. I think it’s a good thing.”
